Frequently asked questions about book digitization

1

In which file formats will I receive my digitized books?

DuMo delivers books in the desired PDF/A format by default. All other common formats, such as TIFF, are also available upon request.

2

Can old or fragile books be scanned without damage?

Yes. DuMo uses special book scanners that are gentle and do not damage the spine or pages. Scanning without a glass plate is also possible for particularly fragile originals.

3

What is the difference between a book scan with OCR and a simple scan?

A simple scan saves pages only as image files; the text is not searchable. With OCR, pages are processed into searchable documents that can be indexed, further edited, or integrated into e-book formats. DuMo can also offer its services for handwritten documents.

4

Can DuMo also digitize entire library collections?

Yes. DuMo supports not only individual works but also the mass digitization of entire collections for libraries, organizations, and companies.

5

Can old handwriting or Sütterlin scripts also be digitally recognized and processed?

Yes. Using modern AI technologies, our DuMo DOC software can reliably read and process even historical and difficult-to-read scripts like Sütterlin (Sytterlin). We achieve particularly good results with documents from civil registry offices, family registers, individual registers, municipal records, and historical books and archives.
